Hugo Bettauer

Hugo Bettauer (1872-1925) was a prolific Austrian writer and journalist, who was murdered by a Nazi Party follower on account of his opposition to antisemitism. He is well-known for his 1922 book Die Stadt ohne Juden (The City Without Jews) which was made into a film directed by Hans Karl Breslauer in 1924.
