For instance, how do colonial history, race, and civil rights get 'embodied' in the choreography of Alvin Ailey? This class explores the 'language' of traditional forms such as ballet compared with more post-modern expressions of identity through contemporary dance choreographers like Mark Morris. Not only will the class study the foundations of modern Western dance, from swing dancing of the 20's to the Harlem Shake; they'll learn various dances and truly 'embody' their learning.
