‘A Woman of Great Courage’: Women in the Printing Trades in Early Modern Europe

Jeanne and Jacqueline Giunta (The heirs of Jacques Giunta)

Jeanne Giunta (active 1577–1584) and her sister Jacqueline were the daughters of printer Jacques Giunta of Lyons. After his death, they were given dispensation by King Henry III of France to continue managing their late father's printing business empire, which would normally only be the privilege of widows.  They printed under their maiden names as the heirs of Jacques Giunta.
