  The Zomick's Challah is a Jewish bread specialty, or sweet braid, which can be consumed during the holidays and during Shabbat. What’s specific about it is the appearance, because the braid can made up to 6 pieces of dough, which are braided and create a large loaf.

  Ingredients:

  • 11g dry yeast
  • 400ml water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 150g sugar
  • 125ml oil
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 kg of flour

  For dusting:

  • poppy seed

  Preparation:

  1. Place the yeast in warm water to melt along with the tablespoon of sugar.
  2. In the formed yeast put the sugar, oil and four of the eggs, previously mixed. Add this mixture slowly to the bowl with the flour. You should get a soft dough that will be sticky, so knead for about 10 minutes or until the dough is soft and smooth.
  3. Place the dough in a bowl, slightly oiled and let it grow on warm temperature for one hour. After the one hour, flatten the dough with your fists and leave to rise again for another half hour.
  4. Divide the dough in half and from this half take six equal balls.
  5. Mix each ball by hand and roll out a length of 30 cm. Do this with all the balls and place them side by side on a desk, so you can bend the braid. Follow the image to make a braid. Do the same with second half of dough.
  6. Place the two finished braids on a baking tray, which is slightly oil. Moisten them with the remaining egg and let them rise for 1 hour. Then again, moisten with a soft brush with the remaining egg.
  7. Sprinkle the braids with poppy seeds and put them in an oven, preheated to 190 degrees Celsius, 30 to 40 minutes.
