The courtyard contains a pergola to one side, built against the precinct wall. This has an open roof and built-in benches on three sides. It would be augmented every autumn in accordance with the rules regulating the construction of a sukkah – the outdoor booth when Jews dine during the week-long Feast of Tabernacles.
