Remember the Removal: Honoring Those Who Came Before Us
In 1984 the Seneca Nation initiated a ceremonial event, called "Remember the Removal", to honor and commemorate the immense impact the relocation had on the Seneca people. This annual remembrance day was organized by the Kinzua Dam Issues Committee and the Remember the Removal subcommittee of our Nation's Council. Our community members gathered around Red House Bridge at the first "Remember the Removal event" in 1984. Red House Bridge is located near Red House, New York.
Our Seneca communities on the Allegany Territory still holds this annual event every September.
