Seasteading Movement

Since 2010 the Seasteading Movement has been conducting research into the potential for permanent, innovative communities – floating at sea. They believe the first key step is for seasteading to become not just possible, but sustainable – technologically, legally, and financially. In other words, the cost of living on the ocean must be low enough and the business opportunities promising enough, such that there will be an economic incentive for people to live on seasteads. They work to enable seasteading communities – floating cities – which will allow the next generation of pioneers to peacefully test new ideas for government. This Research inspired changes in governments around the world. In 2015, Simon and Schuster published the most relevant book for the Movement: “Seasteading: How Floating Cities Will Free The World”, written by  Patri Friedman and Joe Quirk (video below).

Noah
, one of the leaders of Makoko, absorbed these ideas and is working to translate them into his city. This knowledge also contributed to help Makoko to gain the "set of rules" it needs to deliver quality education to transform and prepare the conditions for the change. The transformation in the geopolitical situation is not only driven by education.  The struggle is also carried out by the Makoko Resistance Movement.

The rules are described by Paul Romer: "We'd dramatically reduce the human footprint on Earth by building more cities that people can move to. And if these are cities governed by good rules, they can be cities where people are safe from crime, safe from disease and bad sanitation, where people have a chance to get a job. They can get basic utilities like electricity. Their kids can get a better education (...)"  (Ted Talk below).
