Lagos Border Police

The borders between the floating community of Makoko and the city of Lagos proper are patrolled by groups of heavily-armed policemen. The Lagosian government has historically waged a war of attrition on Makoko, with the goal of starving out the members of the already-poor community. Such a plan only works if the Makokoans cannot leave, which is where the jackbooted, heavily militaristic Lagosian border police come in.

Members of these squads are equipped with a range of weaponry and other equipment, ranging from standard-issue augmented reality headsets that assist in near-instant identification and cross-checking of individuals against a vast online criminal database, ultralight carbon fiber assault rifles, grenade launchers, and riot gear. Other technologies rumored to be possessed by the Lagosian border police include Mother-cloning systems to assist in eavesdropping on suspects, personal jamming shell relay nodes, and swarms of autonomous drones both aerial and aquatic.

While many Makokoans are known to make regular trips to the mainland as a part of their everyday lives, they do so at great peril. Many Makokoans unfortunate enough to run afoul of a Lagos Border Police squad either return with significant, grievous injuries or not at all.
