The third culture we unintentionally stumbled upon came from the server at Landini’s pizzeria, who happened to be from Poland! He overheard us ask the hostess about potential Italian immigrants working at the restaurant and he jumped in to help. In his mid twenties, he told us about his travels here but informed us that some of the more experienced staff might not be as excited to tell their story. The thing that jumped out to us was when he said “some of them just want to be seen explicitly as 'Americans' now and don’t want to bring up the past.” Stay tuned to find out how he tried to turn this business conversation into a date!
