Italian Migrations - HONOR313_FA18

Barbusa

Here at Barbusa, we were shocked at how beautiful and upscale a place could be! It was the perfect blend between traditional Italian culture and the uniqueness of modern design. We walked in and before we could even get “hello” out of our mouths, we knew that we had found our guy. He had three top shirt buttons undone and a scattering of tattoos along his arms and torso. Asking us to meet outside after he grabs a coffee, we suddenly realize that there are no bistro tables lining the sidewalk like at other restaurants. Confused, we wait inside near the door until he reappears along the side alleyway and waves us over to his smoke spot. Feeling slightly out of place, he told us “we are going to talk over a cigarette on the sidewalk, because that is how we do it in Italy.” You will soon find out a real Italian’s opinion of the “glamorous” idea of uprooting to America as a maturing young man.
