Queríamos analizar cómo, en medio del caos, los niños pueden experimentar una pérdida de inocencia. También queríamos observar el hábito que la sociedad tiene en torno a la violencia y cómo afecta a aquellos que no merecen tener una vida sucumbida a esto. Merecen una vida con felicidad que puedan disfrutar junto a la exploración de su juventud. Pero la realidad de sus vidas involucra la violencia, y cómo han cambiado después de vivir en un ambiente violento. La memoria es personal, pero también puede ser algo compartido entre muchas personas. Los recuerdos sobre una hija desaparecida, por ejemplo, pueden ser parte de la memoria personal de una madre; la vida de la hija, sus gustos y aversiones. También, ella juega un papel importante en la memoria compartida de su comunidad: refleja una tragedia más a manos del crimen organizado, autorizado por su gobierno. Desde 2009, han sido 2632 feminicidios solo en Ciudad Juárez. ¿En una comunidad donde las desapariciones son tan comunes, cómo la comunidad puede procesar las desapariciones y conmemorar las historias de las pérdidas? “Cuidar de mí,” es una exploración de manifestaciones artísticas y visuales que representan la lucha por la memoria en estas comunidades. El título está inspirado por la serie de esculturas de Verónica Gerber Bicecci, "centón pétreo". #lazosfamiliares #violenciadegénero #desaparecidostructured_gallery2022-11-30T07:24:23-08:00Muchos de los casos de feminicidios desafortunadamente no tienen una resolución concreta. “Cuidar de mí” es la idea de que las víctimas y las comunidades merecen justicia o al menos una manera de conmemorar sus vidas. Debido a la falta de justicia legal, las comunidades en que los feminicidios ocurren están forzadas a reconstruir las historias de los perdidos en otras formas. Una forma muy importante es la visualización de las víctimas en imágenes documentales y el arte más abstracto.
¿Pero por qué son las imágenes tan importantes? Bueno, las imágenes dan una visualización concreta a una persona. Es una visualización subjetiva y enmarcada en una manera específica, pero es una visualización concreta. Las imágenes son necesarias para la identificación y son un gran parte de nuestra estatus social al punto que es difícil imaginar nuestras vidas sin la circulación de fotos. En instancias de feminicidios, una foto puede retornar identidad a una mujer que ha desaparecido sin rastro. En algunos casos, una foto es la clave para ganar justicia.
Mira la foto de Las tres muertes de Marisela Escobedo. La foto de su hija desaparecida, Rubí, era necesaria para obtener información sobre su desaparición. Esta información llevaría finalmente a un historia entera sobre que pasó a ella y proveía una oportunidad para otras familias en Juárez reclamar las historias de sus seres amados. Estas imágenes también representan como difícil la lucha por respuestas puede ser. Los carteles están rasgados y sucios, una muestra de la extenuación de la familia de Rubí sin idea de la seguridad de ella. El estado de los carteles también empieza una conversación más grande sobre el despido de violencia contra mujeres en la comunidad de Juárez.
En casos sin final una imagen sirve como un fuente de consuelo para una familia y un signo de respeto para la mujer perdida. Una otra foto de Mayra Martell representa una instancia donde la imagen es utilizado para la conmemoración. Similar a la foto de Rubí, “Habitación de Jazmín Chavarría,” hay un foto de una mujer desaparecida, pero el sentimiento de esta foto es diferente. La foto es negro y blanco con la foto de la mujer, Jazmín, adjunto a un espejo. La foto de Jazmín es pequeña y singular en la habitación más grande, creando un sentimiento de profunda tristeza. Todavía hay un respeto y amor que su familia tiene para ella. La habitación está limpia con todos los objetos de Jazmín, la preservación de objetos que representan ella. La foto también parece atrapado en el tiempo. Un reloj es inmóvil, una representación de la dificultad de continuar la vida diaria sin justicia para Jazmín.
Otra herramienta para preservar a las víctimas de los feminicidios es el arte. Sí, es verdad que las imágenes son una forma de arte pero es importante analizar los efectos del arte más abstracto. En casos de feminicidios el arte muestra la importancia de hablar sobre las víctimas y sus identidades. El arte da un conducto a miembros de la comunidad para describir sus emociones y procesa todos los eventos que han pasado en una forma creativa. Objetos como una roca pueden empezar una conversación sobre la falta de voces que las mujeres tienen en México o una obra en el estilo “collage” puede dar una historia más completa a una mujer desaparecida. El arte sirve como un memorial y una manera de ganar justicia al mismo tiempo.
Si una visualización es muy literal cómo imágenes documentales o es muy figurativa como el arte visual, es claro que las visualizaciones tienen un gran impacto en nuestra capacidad de recuperarnos después de un evento traumático. En casos de feminicidio, la visualización de las víctimas es más importante porque la visualización puede ser la diferencia entre la justicia y el abandono. Hay una razón por la que una imagen vale más que mil palabras.
