This secessionist goal stands at the center of the BIFM ideology and thus far leaders have been unwilling to compromise on that goal. This had also been the goal of MILF prior to 2008, however the MILF leadership accepted a compromise with the national government. The government would recognize the autonomy of the "Bangsamoro" region. Kato's unwillingness to see compromise on this issue lead to the split of BIFM from MILF and successive leadership of BIFM have held true to the former Kato's dogma.
