Life of the Organization
- Islamic factions fighting for the independence of the Bangsamoro (Muslim Nation) region become active against the Filipino government in the 1970
- In 1989 the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao is created by the Filipino Government to decrease tensions in the region. Organizations such as MILF refuse to believe in the government's sincerity and do not disarm.
- In 2008, MILF enters talks with the Filipino government over the expansion of the ARMM.
- In 2008 when Ameril Umbra Kato broke away from MILF with a group of rebels who were loyal to him after disagreements over Bangsamoro region's independence.
- BIFM was officially formed in 2010 as a group independent of MILF.
- In 2014 the Armed Forces of the Philippines launched Operation Dark Horse with the intention of defeating BIFM and capturing Kato. MILF fighter worked in cooperation with military forces during the operation. As a result of the campaign the BIFM suffered a high number of casulties, most of which were captured fighters.
- On January 25 of 2015, BIFM fighters were involved in the infamous Mamasapano clash where 44 SAF soldiers were killed by combined forces of both MILF and BIFM.
- On April 14 of 2015 BIFM spokesman confirmed the death of Kato. The spokesman reported that Kato had passed away due to complications with pneumonia. After his death, leadership of BIFM passed to Ismael Abubakar "Bongos", the former Vice-Chairman of Political Affairs. Since the death of Kato the organization has not faded and continues attacks against the Filipino military.
