Rev. Richard Leo Ganter

The Rev. Richard L. Ganter was born on 23 July 1835 in Allegheny, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Kenyon College in 1856 and later Bexley Hall Theological Seminary. He was ordained a priest in 1859 and began his ministry in Mansfield, Ohio. During the Civil War he enlisted as a Private and served as chaplain of the 15th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He mustered out and served as rector of Trinity, Michigan City, from 1863 to 1865. Upon leaving there he married Henrietta D. Stanford on 27 September 1865. He served as rector of Trinity, Iowa City, from 1865 to 1870 and from 1867 to 1879 was also superintendent of the Johnson County Public Schools. He returned to Ohio in 1870 and became rector of St. Paul's, Akron. He died in Akron in 1893 and is buried in Glendale Cemetery.
