Company 1501 C. C. C., was organized at Fort Knox, Kentucky, on June 3, 1933. June 13,1933, to June 19, 1933, was spent enroute from Fort Knox, Kentucky to Descanso, California. Arriving at Descanso, California, on June 19, 1933, the company proceeded to take up its task of building roads.
On April 23,1934, the company left Descanso, California, and proceeded to Priest River, Idaho, where it spent the summer building roads, maintaining trails and telephone lines, and fighting forest fires.
Returning California for the winter of 1934-35, the company was located at Paskenta, California, from October 28, 1934, to May 4, 1935. The main project was road building.
May 5, 1935, the company was transferred to Dillon, Montana. Here it remained for three years, building and maintaining reads, trails, telephone lines, and camp grounds; and fighting forest fires.
May 8, 1938, the company left Dillon, Montana, and moved to a summer camp on Deep Creek in Idaho. The nearest post office was at Darby, Montana, 48 miles away. The main work project was the construction of a road down the Selway River.
October 21, 1938, the company moved from Deep Creek to it present location on the West Fork of the Bitterroot River eleven miles southwest of Darby, Montana. The work project of Camp F-78 is under Forest Service supervision. It consists of fighting forest firesand building and maintaining roads, bridges, trails, telephone line, public camp grounds, and recreational grounds such as ski courses.
