Chapter 5-Health Care Nonprofits

        What is a healthcare nonprofit? Whether it be counseling, a treatment center, or a hospital, a healthcare nonprofit is simply an organization that provides a service that improves the health of individuals and society as a whole while not making profit (Wyland). The entities can range from nationwide organizations, such as the American Cancer Society, to small, local charities that work hard within local communities. Healthcare nonprofits are vital to society, as the government can only provide so much and the private sector can sometimes be too money-oriented.
        In the Cleveland metropolitan area, there are four small healthcare nonprofits that stand out in their noble and efficient work: The Free Medical Clinic of Greater Cleveland, Hope Lodge, Recovery Resources, and Mission4Maureen.




         Of the unifying characteristics that make these nonprofits "All-Stars", the most important is that they are all accessible to most people in the Cleveland area; the locations of these organizations make it easy to receive healthcare.
