Agustin Lara's Boleros
Agustin Lara (1897-1970) is the most recognizable composer of boleros, known for transforming the genre into a popular, poetry-focused style. He was influenced by Sanchez and Cardenas. Of the development of the genre, he had this to say:
| I don’t know how I would distinguish, technically, the metamorphosis of a music that is marked in four. All I can say is that I was able to construct, or more like dream, a bolero that had accessible words and that was also danceable; and from that it became a hit. When I composed my boleros I imagined they would add luster to my shoes.. [1] |
