Applying Buddhist Teachings to Live a Happier Life, Both Online and Offline

The Eightfold Path

One of the core aspects of Buddhism is practicing the Eightfold Path. For the Buddhist, this will lead to the cessation of suffering and the attainment of Enlightenment, but for our purposes, we will use it more like a lifestyle guide.

The Eightfold Path

  1. Right View
  2. Right Intent
  3. Right Speech
  4. Right Conduct
  5. Right Livelihood
  6. Right Effort
  7. Right Mindfulness
  8. Right Concentration

Living by the Eightfold Path is the Buddhist way of saying living with intention. It's easy for people to get caught up in life, everyone's busy, everyone has a million things going on, racing along with the flow is the norm, right?

The digital age in particular has demonstrated people's need for intentional living. Between cell phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, smart TVs, and ads all around us, we are constantly bombarded by stimulation and communication. New Media has introduced us to many new ways of communicating and experiencing the world. By following the principles of Buddhism, we can protect ourselves and our minds from the negative side effects of this digital revolution. We can also use them to get the most out of technology, and better understand the world in which we live.

Remembering to live our lives according to a few basic principles, like the Eightfold Path, can help us to live happier lives, and also be better people.
