Applying Buddhist Teachings to Live a Happier Life, Both Online and Offline

Putting it All Together

In this Scalar book we learned about some core Buddhist principles that can help you live a happier life. Overarching among these is the Middle Path, or seeking balance in all things. Following this are the 8 steps of the Eightfold Path;

  1. Right Views
  2. Right Intent
  3. Right Speech
  4. Right Conduct
  5. Right Livelihood
  6. Right Effort
  7. Right Mindfulness
  8. Right Concentration
Incorporating all, or some, of these principles into your life will almost certainly improve your ability to live intentionally. It will help you realize and remember what is important to you, how you want to spend your time, and what your values are. Following these principles will help you make sure that the way you interact with the world reflects the kind of person you are and the kind of influence you want to have on those around you.

These steps apply to your physical, emotional, and digital selves. You should use them on a personal level as well as a public level. When you communicate or commit actions in the physical or digital worlds, remember to ask yourself what effect those actions or words will have.
