Women's Branch of the L.A. Yiddish Culture Club
"The Women's Branch of the L.A. Yiddish Culture Club" by the directors of the Los Angeles Yiddish Culture Club
As appears in Khesbn (The Reckoning), vol. 1 (1946): 36.
Translated by Mark L. Smith.
When the Los Angeles Yiddish Culture Club began its campaign to build its new home, the loyal, devoted women friends of the club organized themselves into a specific branch in order, first of all, to help with the work of the building fund, and to contribute their share of energy to the realization of our new building; and now, when the building is already completed — and praise should be given to them here — that with their devoted work, they helped considerably to reach our goal — the women friends intend to continue to exist as a self-standing branch of the club and conduct cultural work that is closely related to the club’s activities.
So far, the women’s branch of the culture club has helped a great amount with the furnishing of the building; to their credit, they raised the sum of three thousand dollars, conducted a successful campaign for seats in the auditorium, and contributed to the furnishing of the stage and other necessary equipment. Overall, the women’s branch displayed much interest and devotion during the entire time of the construction of our new cultural center, and their ambition is to remain such a group with the club and continue that interest, doing all in their power and authority to strengthen, beautify and enrich this beloved institution that belongs to us all — the L.A. Yiddish Culture Club.
The leadership of the culture club expresses its heartfelt thanks to all of the women friends and the Women’s Branch who have demonstrated so much loyalty and sympathy for the work, and we hope that, side by side with the culture club, they will continue to work for the benefit of the cultural home of us all.
