Makoko 2035: An Encyclopedia

Transportation

Makokoans get around the city on foot, traversing the many bridges between homes and establishments. Many also own boats, used for fishing and transportation.

An individual transportation system based on sharing economy is also available to the community. It is composed of one recycled truck inner tube, motor, sensors, solar panels and battery. The units are autonomous, the user only needs to say the destination and the computer calculates best route. They are parked and available all over Makoko, and during rush hours they automatically return to areas with more demand. Although these units are slow and can only carry one passenger, another upgraded version is also seen transporting recycled materials. The company owned by foreigner investor Robert Tepper is known for branching its sustainability along the productive process and rumor has it the millionaire financed this project, even though this is not confirmed.

The image here is of the early speculative designs for the transport systems, which currently look identical (although significantly more worn), to the designs seen here.
