When Stuart Moulthrop first talked to the Electronic Literature Lab about assisting him in reconstructing Victory Garden, he envisioned the contemporary edition as a faithful remake of the original. Quickly, however, he saw the advantage of updating the interface and reading experience for a contemporary audience. As seen in the 1994 Macintosh Edition produced on the Storyspace platform, readers encounter a black and white interface and bitmapped images. Along with clicking the hyperlinks to move through the story, readers also can use the toolbar for additional navigational possibilities. The 2022 Web Edition offers a full color interface and over 50 images. The toolbar remains as a pervasive presence in the hypertext but updated aesthetically.
