         Character creation has become a major part of video gaming in recent years. In classic arcade games, this was never an option. Players are given the freedom to basically create their character from scratch. To expedite the creation process, games provide templates for players to choose from, allowing the player to change the details however they like. Players are allowed to select gender and race. Shreyas discusses the gender and race dynamics involved in video games.
         Character creation is a vital aspect of role playing video games. Nearly every game begins with this step. For many games, the character is permanent but some games encourage frequent character customization. Character advancement is one way that video games are persistent. However the character creation process works, the idea remains the same: the gamers creates their ideal character. Fantasy games allow players to select many things such as race (species) and class, whereas more contemporary games limit the players creative ability to physical traits. Character customization often affects the character's skills and statistics.
