Set in Richmond, 1836. The first few pages is a first person account of Poe’s life up to this year.  Poe goes to a magic show and proceeds to debunk it as it is going on.  Afterwards, he learns the true horror behind the show.

Poe is a haughty drunk unsure if what he sees is real or the horrible delusions of his own mind.
