Edgar Allan Poe : Portrayal in the Media: an Annotated Bibliography of Edgar Alla Poe as a character

Richmond, Late September, 1849

Leiber, Fritz. "Richmond, Late September, 1849." Heroes and Horrors. Whispers Press, 1978. p.123 - 137. Print.

Based on the last days of Poe’s life.  In this story the author writes that Poe saw a woman named Berenice on the street that resembled Virginia.  She seems to take pity on him because he looks so sick. They talk. He regails her with his history. They go to a pub to drink and Poe continues to talk about himself and his writing career.

Poe sounds very moderate. Not overly crazed as some authors usually write him, but filled with a melancholy and a huge ego none the less.   He quickly starts to deteriorate.
