With Los Angeles’ large K-Pop fanbase and rising annual K-Concert attendance rates, we look into why K-pop has become so beloved in the hearts and imaginations of so many and how robust fandoms are created. In this remix, we explore the K-pop fandom community as imagined through cyberspace, the fans of Los Angeles, and the students of the University of Southern California. The stories of Annie, Ed, and Tia explore the ways K-pop is marketed, expressed, and related to their sense of identity and community. As they explain their place within K-pop and discuss the industry that sustains it, the concept of communitas or a sense of borderless camaraderie emerges. K-Pop Fandoms in LA provides an intimate look and dialogue into how community is imagined and the meaning-making and identity creation involved in the world of K-pop.
