This video works to explain what yellow fever is, how it came to be, how yellow fever and stereotypes of Asian women are perpetuated in media, and what we can do to limit the spread of yellow fever. For so long, Asian women have been thought of and portrayed as sexual, submissive objects. We see how this stems from early American racism and how it has evolved and become its own monster in the present day. While harmful Asian stereotypes are no longer as frequently included in modern day film, I push for accurate and human representations of Asian women in film, citing examples from recent Asian filmmakers. Overall, this video hopes to remind viewers to not generalize marginalized populations and to actively seek positive representation in film.
