Mirena

by Meagan Grant

Three years ago
a butterfly entered
my body.

Her name, Mirena—
of the sea—
not just an IUD.

Placed precisely in my cervix,
fluttering through a plush landscape,
Mirena’s proboscis extends,

attaches to the thickened wall—
feasting on fertility—
ingesting both life and death.
