Mike's Notetaking Challenge 9/23 BR4

Brain Rules 4 Reflection

I chose to use Coggle this week, and I love the fact that I was able to sign in using Google, so I didn't have to create yet another new user ID and password. It reminded me a bit of Mindmeister, although you can follow 'paths' of thinking easier (kind of like a visually appealing Scalar). I like how the text boxes automatically adapt to the size you need as you're writing. I also found the interface to be very intuitive. I like that they added the keyboard shortcuts in the bottom lefthand corner. It seems like this interface has really been designed with the end user in mind. This would be a very easy program for students to work with in class, and the collaboration tools seem to be such that students could work together, and the instructor could see what each group member contributed to the final product. One can also go back to previous versions of the document with ease. Overall, this is one of the best software programs that I've used so far in this course.

I couldn't figure out how to move this below my imbedded coggle without removing the coggle, so here are my peer comments:

Heather did a great job of using scoop.it to explore the topics related to the reading this week. I like how she used screenshots to capture the process involved in using the program. Often, using these new technologies is about discovering the thinking process involved in thinking through a new tool (as opposed to the technology just being a 'tool' to use). The medium impacts the kind (and quality) of thought, so this was interesting to see.

Amy's post used an image that I thought was really interesting. I'm not sure if this was a separate technology or just part of scalar, but I was impressed with how much detail was available after enlarging the image. From an accessibility standpoint, this image made gathering information like the description of the image and its permalink makes this image all the better.

Discussion of "Mike's Notetaking Challenge 9/23 BR4"

Thanks for the review!

Mike, this looks like the sort of mind map program that would really work well in the classroom. I've been a bit stymied at the limitations (spatial and content) of other programs (Mindomo -- which I've been calling Mindmodo for some reason -- and even Popplet. I'm looking forward to trying this one!

surprised

For some reason I'm surprised you used the Google login; I emphatically don't allow my accounts to overlap.
