Program Schedule
There will be six different small group activities. Each group will start at a different one and rotate throughout all six by the end of the day. Each activity will run for 25 minutes with 5 minutes for transition. Each activity would ideally be led by a museum official, perhaps an employee of the museum's children, outreach, and/or education department or by a trained volunteer.
There will be a one hour break in the middle of the day for lunch and down time. This time will allow the children to have time to relax, refocus, and interact with other students outside of their small group. After the break, the students will be able to engage in the last three activities as much as they did in the first three. The break also provides a chance for the volunteers and helpers to replenish supplies and refocus as well to provide the optimal environment for the latter half of the program.
At the end of the day, the children will have completed a "camp scrapbook" that contains pages with questions about each of the activities; this tool will act as a way for the children to review, reflect, and tie together all of the different things they learned while also providing a tangible item to take home with them! The last half hour of the program is allotted to allow the students to finish up their scrapbook, reflect on their experiences with other students and helpers as a large group, and see some of the other students' work. The day's schedule is outlined below.
9:30 am - 10 am: Registration and free play
10 am - 10:20 am: Welcome and Introduction
10:20 am - 10:30 am: Divide into groups
10:30 am - 10:55 am: First activity block
10:55 am - 11 am: Move to next activity
11 am - 11:25 am: Second activity block
11:25 am - 11:30 am: Move to next activity
11:30 am - 12 pm: Third activity block
12 pm - 1pm: Lunch and free time in courtyard/outside
1 pm - 1:05 pm: Move to next activity
1:05 pm - 1:30 pm: Fourth activity block
1:30 pm - 1:35 pm: Move to next activity
1:35 pm - 2 pm: Fifth activity block
2 pm - 2:05 pm: Move to next activity
2:05 pm - 2:30 pm: Sixth activity block
2:30 pm - 3 pm: Finish scrapbook activities and final remarks
3 pm: Parent pickup
