An Uncertain Future

Collecting Luggage, 1942

A photograph of family identifying their hand baggage prior to departure from the assembly center at Santa Anita, California. Caption on album page: "Transfer of the evacuees from the Assembly Centers to War Relocation Centers was conducted by the Army. Train lists were made up so that families would not be separated and in most instances, groups associated by residence in pre-evacuation days were kept together. Here is a busy scene of family groups identifying their hand baggage prior to departure from the Assembly Center at Santa Anita, California."

Departing Letter, circa 1942

Letter from Jane Harino to Rev. Miller in which the author states she is going to Jerome, Arkansas rather than to Granada, a change that pleases her because "there's a certain someone in Jerome - We're both so very happy"; also mentions passes for Miller [and Mrs. Miller?] as well as for the Reverend and Mrs. Clay, and asks that Miller help her by bringing some boxes to the Housing office.
