Smoking problems on campus

As we all know that our UCSD campus is a tobacco-free campus. Students are not allowed to smoke on campus area and they will be punished if they do.  However, is our campus truly tobacco free? The answer is no. But why?
A lot of my friends would text each other and go to smoke together in campus area that they said they need to relax from the pressure. And that’s why on the third floor of Geisel Library, you can see lots of cigarette butts on the floor and ironically, there’s a slogan on the wall: “No Smoking”. So, I think we should think of some solutions, like establishing smoking areas on campus, to improve this situation. But also increase the punishments if students smoke outside the smoking areas.
Through this project, I learned and used more skills on the documentary interviewing. I shoot the b-roll videos with different kind of creative shooting angles. I did not even know there are so many secret smoking spots, these different shots provide people with a sense of revealing the truth under the policy.
I specifically chose Asian students as my interview subjects. Because I want to focus on the influence of culture background on the smoking problem on campus. I hope to raise people’s awareness by creating this documentary.
