Moritz Gottlieb Saphir

Moritz Saphir (1795–1858) was a humorist, poet, feature writer, and literary and theater critic. In Berlin he established two publications—Berliner Schnellpost and Berliner Courier—which are essential to what became known as Berliner Witz, a journalistic display of biting wit that was very popular with the reading public.
