The theme of the creative will appears for the first time. The trumpets leap down and then up at a dissonant tritone transposition introducing the theme and returning twice at its end. The autographed score says, "A ray of light pierces the dark." The immutable, sustained tremolo in the strings completes the Mystic chord against the moving voices in the trumpets.
