Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

You can scroll or pinch to zoom in on the table of contents or click and hold to drag its contents around. Select any filled circle to reveal its connections; select again to hide them. By clicking an item's title, you can open the associated content. Alternatively, you can view the Table of Contents by clicking on the three bars on the top left and selecting the heading you would like to pursue. Otherwise, to continue along the main path of the digital companion, click on the blue button below.
You can always refer to About this visualization and Legend on the lower right of visualizations to learn about what they represent, how to interact with them, and how their elements are color-coded. Paths are blue, pages—orange, tags—red, media—green, annotations—purple.
