Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

Spencer3a6e09c2eefd9ca96adbf188c38f589304cf3ce2FOOTPRINT is a solo guitar concert reimagined, exploring the possibilities of sound and smell with the goal of spreading climate change awareness. With an abundance of posters and commercials, Robert seeks to portray climate change issues through the unconventional lens of music and perfumery. The two art forms have intertwined in the past, most notably during the late 19th and 20th centuries. Composers like Alexander Scriabin experimented with adding scents to music, combining the experiences of the two senses. This concert pays an homage to this tradition with a modern take in both fields. This event was held at The Institute for Art and Olfaction in Los Angeles.
Robert played both the classical guitar and the Baroque guitar in a program ranging from the Baroque to contemporary classical music. Meanwhile, each musical work was paired with an original perfume, available to smell during the concert.
