Young Artist Project: USC Thornton School of Music

Zoe Beyler

Zoe Beyler is a percussionist, pianist, and taiko player seeking to explore the full breadth of music and percussion across time and genres. Currently, she is pursuing her goals as a University of Southern California Thornton School of Music percussion student, studying with Joseph Pereira and James Babor, and as the artistic director of USC’s taiko group, Kazan Taiko.

Beyler is interested in contemporary music, and enjoys playing recently composed works with the USC Thornton Percussion Ensemble, as well as collaborating as a member of Portland Taiko with groups such as Fear No Music, a Portland-based contemporary music ensemble. Also with Portland Taiko, she has participated in social advocacy through performance and community events. Beyler also has a love for music education, and is currently working with the Thornton Community Engagement Program, working with students in schools in central LA.

Beyler attended Aspen Music Festival in 2022 and Eastern Music Festival in 2021, and has performed with the Thornton Symphony Orchestra, the Thornton Opera, the Thornton Percussion Ensemble, the American Youth Symphony, the Portland Youth Philharmonic, Portland Taiko, En Taiko, and Kazan Taiko. Beyler has studied classical piano since kindergarten, and enjoys hiking, running, drinking coffee, and spending time with her cats.
