Young Artist Project: USC Thornton School of Music

Timothy Su

Surrounded by music from youth, Timothy Su has always believed in music’s power to bring people together. He and his siblings previously spent their summers playing at a variety of nursing and retirement homes to senior citizens who face challenges in experiencing live music. Whether through the performers themselves or audience members, these opportunities have not only created relationships between people but also transcended the boundaries ubiquitous in the world, be they racial, linguistic, or cultural. As such, his video essay titled "Asian Parents' Unique Relationship with Classical Music" takes a closer look at the cultural factors that affect Asian-American Classical Musicians and their parents while dissecting the various myths and stereotypes surrounding them.

Timothy is currently a fourth-year undergraduate student of Bernadene Blaha at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music.
