Have Ya Heard - a podcast

"Have Ya Heard" is a podcast aimed at exploring beyond the traditional repertoire of the classical canon. In these episodes, I try to bring in composers of BIPOC backgrounds, women composers, and of other overlooked histories and bring light to the amazing works they have created!

Episode 1: Late Romantic Women
Episode 2: The Transformation of Classical Music
Episode 3: A Composer Over Time

Jamie Kim is a Trustee Scholar at the University of Southern California pursuing a BM in Flute Performance with a minor in music industry. Previously having studied with her teachers, Verna Balch and Catherine Karoly for ten and six years respectively, she then spent almost four years with Jim Walker and is now continuing her studies again with Mrs. Karoly at the Thornton School of Music. Jamie has had the opportunity to solo with many orchestras, including the Beach Cities Symphony, Mt. St. Mary’s Orchestra, Culver City Chamber Orchestra, Brentwood Westwood Symphony, and the Santa Monica College Symphony, and has been the winner of numerous competitions such as National YoungArts, Classics Alive Young Artist, and Lansum International Competition. She is also a two-time semifinalist of The Music Center’s Spotlight competition, a finalist of the Edith Knox Concerto Competition and of the National Flute Association High School Soloist Competition, and recently was named a semifinalist in the NFA Young Artist Competition and placed second in USC’s annual concerto competition. Her past festival experiences include playing with the Chautauqua Music Festival and the National Repertory Orchestra.

When not practicing, Jamie is a devoted fitness lover and loves to go on runs and long hikes. She also recently discovered her love for the art of cooking and baking and is excited to pursue this passion further in the kitchen!
