Living in a community that is constantly plagued by violent encounters with racist law enforcement creates trauma within an individual, which causes them to view their community as a unit fighting to survive. Lamar, who can be seen as a leader of his community, leaving caused this separation anxiety that lead people to tell Lamar they feel betrayed that he, such a massive support system, left.
