Kendrick Lamar is a modern Black leader
To Pimp A Butterfly presents many narratives of how oppressed Black Americans, rich or poor, feel under this American system. In addition, Lamar also overviews how we, as a community, oppress each other along with ways we can remedy such issues. By making an album that seeks to represent Black suffering and teach values important to the Black community, Lamar has proven himself to be a modern Black leader. Even though each song on the album exemplifies his leadership qualities, I chose the pieces “Alright”, “Momma”, and “i” to highlight these qualities.
