Theater of the Sacred: Resistance in the Zona Sul

Occupying Spaces in the Periphery

The map below pinpoints the spaces occupied by Teatro Terreiro Encantado for their performances of the play Auto do Negrinho in São Paulo. The spaces are all located in the zona sul (south side) periphery of the metropolitan region of São Paulo. One performance took place in Taboão da Serra, a city that is adjacent to the peripheral districts of São Paulo. Two performances took place in the district of Campo Limpo, which borders Taboão da Serra, and the fourth performance took place in the district of Interlagos, which is is the far south section of the zona sul.

You can move the map around with your cursor and zoom in and out to get a better sense of the location of the performances in relation to the rest of the metropolitan region of São Paulo. For reference, the name "São Paulo" on the map is the location of the historic center of the city. "Jardins" is the name of one of the wealthier neighborhoods in the city and the adjacent neighborhoods (Itaim Bibi, Vila Olímpia, Morumbi, and Brooklin) is the wealthiest area of the city.

The members of Teatro Terreiro Encantado primarily live in Taboão da Serra and Campo Limpo. To better understand the disparity in experiences between Campo Limpo and Vila Mariana (upper middle class neighborhood), see the data points and chart shared in the Introduction
