Theater of the Sacred: Resistance in the Zona Sul

Casa de Cultura Campo Limpo

The Casas de Cultura (Cultural Houses) are cultural centers created and managed by the São Paulo's Office of Cultural Affairs (Secretaria Municipal de Cultura).  Currently, there are 20 casas de cultura in São Paulo, and all of them are located in neighborhoods in the periphery of the city. Educational and arts programming are the main focus of these centers, including art workshops, classes, events, and shows.

In 2019, Teatro Terreiro Encantado performed Auto do Negrinho at the Campo Limpo Casa de Cultura.  The performance was free and open to the public, but the primary audience were the children and their parents who are clients of Campo Limpo CAPS (Psychosocial Care Centers). This performance in particular illustrates how the group engages in community work with children and youth from local neighborhoods. Cleydson Catarina has repeatedly emphasized that the play is for the children and youth from the periphery communities.

See the post below from Teatro Terreiro Encantado's Facebook page that includes photos of their performance on June 18, 2019.
