Ideas for mosque exterior

We want to make the mosque look interesting and stand out a little from the surroundings, but not so much as to make it an eyesore.  The mosque should be inviting and represent a comfortable community worship space.  The mosque will be constructed in a sleek and somewhat minimalistic design, drawing elements from modern design, arabic designs present in Syria, Iraq and Pakistan, as well as spanish influences.  We aim to make this mosques conducive to the longevity and prosperity of the ecosphere by using renewable energy, native species, building materials and recycling water.  We want this to be a community worship, learning and social space and put the desires of the community first.  Because of the sterile, uninviting feeling of the minimalist, geometric designs it is important to keep a very open layout that encourages community space and engagement as well as using soothing neutral, yet inviting colors.  Artwork made by community locals and from recycled materials will be displayed on the walls to give a sense of community and welcoming.  We would like our mosque to be a simplified, modernized, smaller and more inviting model of the Grand Mosque in Dubai, with influences from other building styles and materials.  Instead of many Ottoman style minarets like the Grand Mosque, we will build one sleek and modern mosque.
