team exterior #2

It is essential to have inviting and welcoming doorways to encourage the idea of community envelopment and the open and friendly atmosphere of this mosque. The entrances are literally and figuratively the gateway into this holy space and therefore must be inviting and respectful.  There will be several entrances around the building to encourage people to come into and use this open community space.  There will also be separate doors for men and women to bring them to separate sections and create a safe comfortable space for everyone to worship.

Our mosque will have a simple, yet visually appealing door such as this idea for entrance/arched door which constructed in moorish style.  The interrupted archway coupled with the vibrant red color is an interesting design that draws the attention of the observer's eye.

The door will also have a more simplistic, stylized look with soft, neutral colors such as this example: idea #2 for entrance/arched door. The walls around the door would have a rather unassuming texture and style so as to not monopolize the attention of the viewer.  The glass arch around the door will also be incorporated, but with stained glass mosaics that contain calligraphic scripture from the qur'an or important hadiths.

In order to make our mosque truly unique and representative of the culture and arcitecture present in whittier we have also chosen to include a door design with spanish influenced architecture commonly found in Whittier.  Similar to the style in idea #3 for entrance/arched door, we would include alternating colors on the top of our arch in muted or gentle tones.  It is essential to include styles that will compliment the surrounding buildings with similar tones and appearance in order to fit the culture and style present in Whittier.
