Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

When encoding these texts, try to replicate the formatting of the original title page. This is for readability and to allow viewers to recognize this common genre convention. See the following screenshots for an example. Note that the sample encoded text shown above uses a mix of the following rend values:
large
small
italic
bold
center
It also uses:
line break (lb) elements
horizontal lines
create horizontal lines by inserting a lb element and modifying it with a rend value “horizontal-rule.”
The width of the horizontal line can be modified by selecting the p element that contains the lb and entering a rend value for text alignment (e.g., “style511”). See section Formatting Text with Indentations & Alignment for a list of these values.
