Step Three exercise Odysseus

LISTENING FOR LEADERSHIP

1. Keep a running track of the scenes included in the final book of the Odyssey. How many are there? How do they each contribute to the epic’s closure?

2. One of the themes of the Odyssey is ‘vengeance’: Odysseus is set up to ‘punish’ the suitors for transgressions against him; his companions die for transgressions against the gods. How is the theme of vengeance addressed in the final book and how does this relate to justice?
