Representations of Classical Greek Monuments : An Exploration of the Visual Culture

Parthenon

The Parthenon stands as the crowning glory of the Acropolis. After being used as a gun powder storage that exploded, the inside columns along with most of the sides and roof was damaged beyond recognition. Cranes and wooden platforms supported by metal poles line the inside of the temple and on the roof to help restoration efforts. The rubble that once coated the floors were smoothed to create dirt paths for tourists and the old Acropolis Museum behind the Parthenon takes a considerable amount of space on the mountain top.
