Ted T. Aoki

Born in 1919, Ted Aoki is a Japanese Canadian curriculum scholar who conceptualized a “living curriculum”. He earned his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia in 1941 and continued his education with a Bachelor of Education in 1949 and Master of Education in 1963 from University of Alberta. Aoki taught at an elementary, junior, and high school level as well as became an Assistant Principal in Alberta. He then became a Professor at his alma mater from 1967-1975. He completed his doctorate in Curriculum studies from the University of Oregon during this time. Aoki offered a new way of understanding curriculum to international graduate students as well as publishing his work throughout his retirement.
