Lounging in the 60s

Objects

This exhibit centers around the 14 objects from the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center from the Mission 66 era. What once was a group of seemingly haphazard objects now spells out a fascinating narrative of movement among visitors to Beaver Meadows Visitor Center. From auditorium benches to standing ashtrays, this exhibit features the smaller details that developed as a contradiction to the movement that was crucial to Mission 66 values. While the pieces might seem insignificant separately, these objects collectively help us see ways in which Beaver Meadows Visitor Center facilitated visitors as a break from the movement of Rocky Mountain National Park. By providing a place of rest and information, Beaver Meadows provided a contrast to the movement of driving and hiking through Rocky Mountain National Park.

In this exhibit, there are seating objects, objects that contributed to the overall design of the building, and objects for facilitating waste management.
